Responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Governance and Data Protection functions, providing effective and efficient services and advice to enable First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) to meet its assurance and governance obligations.

  • Support Director of Governance, Risk and Assurance, to ensure that regulatory requirements are complied with and that there is effective governance support in place.
  • Provide strategic direction, interpretation and advice to the Governance Team, Risk Manager and other colleagues within the organisation.
  • Provide support to the Board and committees and their members, within the governance framework, including agenda and report planning and publishing.
  • Develop and implement governance processes and provide challenge to ensure accurate information and the quality of its presentation is to the expected standards.
  • Oversee the development, coordination and delivery of compliance with data protection across the organisation.
  • This includes Subject Access Requests, data breaches, maintaining and updating privacy notices and holding of information.
  • Develop, maintain and implement appropriate data policies and processes in accordance with best practice.
  • Manage and assess any risks and collate lessons learned arising from data protection incidents, as well as regularly reviewing training for colleagues.
  • It is a key function of this role to promote a culture of observance with data protection requirements throughout the organisation.
  • Provide advice and support for the Internal Audit process, ensuring the scopes and outcomes align with the Key Strategic Risks and that any mitigating actions identified are fed into the updates.
  • Through liaison with the leadership team, maintain and update the forward planning process, taking account of governance requirements as well as reporting cycles.
  • Provide advice and support for Board, Committee and Executive Management Team, meetings including agenda and report planning and preparation, publishing of approved papers, minute recording and progress chasing follow up actions.
  • Review and keep up to date on the Regulator of Social Housing’s (RSH’s) requirements in relation to assurance and Consumer Standards and advise the Director of Governance, Risk and Assurance.
  • Work with Operational service areas to develop an approach to complaints governance reporting and oversight and customer focussed engagement and scrutiny, that link with the governance framework and meet regulatory expectations.
  • Work with the Risk Manager to ensure the Strategic Risk Register for FCHO is up to date for presentation to the Risk Panel, Audit and Risk Committee and Board and that effective Operational Risk Registers are in place, supported by mitigating actions, that underpin it.
  • Control the process for systemic review of strategies and policies, ensuring timely and consistent presentation and format that meet the agreed governance requirements.
  • Support the Director of Governance, Risk and Assurance and the Leadership Team in the coordination and completion of regulatory and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) self assessment reporting processes for FCHO.
  • Give clear guidance and assistance to all members of the team, including undertaking appraisal, management support, training and development and deputise for the Director of Governance, Risk and Assurance as appropriate.
